Hexcel’s European patent covering its HexMC® technology and products upheld by Technical Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office

Duxford, Cambridge, UK - March 30th 2010: Hexcel’s European patent EP 1 134 314, which covers its HexMC® product used in a number of aerospace, sports goods and automotive applications as well as a wide range of industrial components, was upheld by the Technical Board of Appeal for the European Patent Office on 23rd March 2010. It was validated as per the previous decision of the European Patent Office’s Opposition Division of 17 April 2008.

Hexcel is pleased that the innovative and unique characteristics of HexMC® have again been recognised and tested at the highest level of the European Patent Office.

HexMC® is a high performance sheet molding material, suitable for the high volume production of intricate shapes and specifically designed for compression molding. With a product range that includes long carbon fibers of 50mm and a low resin content, HexMC® provides excellent mechanical properties and creates new opportunities for complex and weight critical parts to be made from composites.
