HexPly® Prepregs for Wind Energy

STRUCTURAL PREPREG
Prepregs are glass or carbon fiber reinforcements that are impregnated with epoxy resin. They are supplied as rolls and cured by applying heat to provide quality laminates with superior stiffness and strength – at low weights. The exceptionally high stiffness provided by Carbon fiber prepregs can make them a cost–effective option as blades can be made stiffer while using less material.

Hexcel has extended its resin range for wind energy to meet customer requirements for reduced production times and smoother production input. HexPly® wind energy prepregs are suitable for low pressure molding processes. The resin systems are highly versatile, permitting a range of processing temperatures from 85°C/185°F up to 150°C/302°F.

The HexPly® M9G family of resins is optimized for wind blades, providing very high flow matrix with excellent tack life and good surface finish. HexPly M9G is particularly suitable for producing large thick laminates.

SURFACING PREPREG
HexPly® XF2P is Hexcel’s NEW surfacing prepreg for wind energy, HexPly® XF2P, provides a ready to paint surface that is tough and durable without the need for gel coat. This results in man-hour savings by avoiding the resin mixing and pre-gelling processes and eliminates the stocking of reactive gel coat ingredients.
