Tianjin, China Tianjin is a provincial municipality of the People's Republic of China, located on the North Eastern side of the North China Plain, facing the Bohai River to the East and bordering the Yashan Mountain to the North.  Tianjin has the third largest urban land area in China after Beijing (which is 75 miles/120km away) and Shanghai.  Tianjin's urban area is located along the Hai He River, which connects to the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers via the Grand Canal.  A 600 year old city, Tianjin is today an international harbor and the economic center of Northern China. 

 

Hexcel’s facility in Tianjin was opened in 2008.The plant was built in conjunction with Tianjin Xeda Administrative Committee (Xeda), who helped Hexcel to secure a site with a total floor area of 323,000 sq.ft. (30,000m2) close to the facilities of major wind power customers in Tianjin. The plant building occupies an area of approximately 86,000 sq.ft. (8,000m2).

 

Hexcel's Tianjin plant manufactures HexPly® epoxy resin prepregs. Prepreg is a fiber-reinforced resin system that cures under heat and pressure to provide structures that are exceptionally strong and stiff and yet lower weight than traditional materials.

 

The key market for products made in Hexcel's Tianjin plant is the wind energy industry where prepreg is used to manufacture the shells and spars for wind turbine blades.
